Headingley Candidate Asghar Khan
“I joined the Labour party in 2001 because I saw first hand the improvements in Leeds after just one term of a Labour Government.”
Asghar has lived in Leeds for more than 30 years. Married with 5 children, Asghar is a school governor as well and an experienced and effective community campaigner.
As secretary of his local residents’ forum and a member of the committee organising the highly successful Beeston festival, Asghar has strong experience of delivering positive change.
Asghar has worked for the Royal Mail for over 20 years and is active in his trade union, the Communication Workers Union. He is also a community mentor through his local college, helping people to get the best out of the educational opportunities available to them.
“It’s important to me that everyone gets the opportunity to make the best of their situation. Headingley and Leeds North West have been let down by its current representatives, and it’s time there was someone fighting against Council cuts.”
