Weetwood Campaigner Carol Hughes
“Having worked for many years in a variety of low-paid jobs, I’m acutely aware of the inequalities that exist in our society. I joined the Labour Party more than 25 years ago and campaign because I believe it’s the best way of redressing that balance.”
Carol was brought up in the Chapeltown area of Leeds, attending Hillcrest Primary, Allerton High and Park Lane College before going to University. She has lived and worked in various areas of the country before moving back to home to Leeds after her children grew up.
A researcher by profession, Carol has had a number of jobs – in supermarkets, factory assembly lines, care and teaching assistant – when her children were young.Carol is Greek Cypriot by origin, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Greek Orthodox Church in Chapeltown and the Greek School Committee.
“My community identity and the values I get from it are very important to me. Greek Cypriots have made a reallyimportant contribution to our city over the years, and I want to continue that tradition by working hard for the people of Weetwood and Leeds North West.”
